N6165U is 44-84634, former Guardia Nacional de Nicaragua GN-96, reportedly being restored as N51ES.

N6165U is 44-84634, former Guardia Nacional de Nicaragua GN-96. It wore camouflage colours for a while (a previous P-51Who case). Now reportedly N51ES, being restored at Chino. GN-96, N6165U is reported by a swedish website (and the survivors list) as 44-63634, not 44-84634.

I'll jump in early on this one and give it an ID. This belonged to my good friend Tom Kuchinsky of Milwaukee. It is N6165U, 44-63634, ex Swedish 26121, to FAN as GN93, to MACO in 1963 and an attempt was made to sell it to the FAS, but the Feds stepped in and squashed the deal. It was given the phoney serial of 44-85643 at some point, but later corrected and may have been briefly listed as N151GB, then N51JV and presently N51ES. This mustang holds a special meaning to me, as it was the first mustang I flew in, when it was N51JV. I believe the photo was taken at Palwaukee Airport in Wheeling, IL, as I have a photo taken at sunset in the same position, with Tom up on that ladder tweaking the engine. It was Sep 1968 according to the date on my slides.

Hi all, I was wrong about restoration date, i just read some data too fast. This Mustang was restored as N51ES in 1992. Sorry for posting wrong info. Cheers Marc
