Uhmmmmmm... N2871D in my records is 45-11367, which crashed and then parts were used in the rebuild of 44-63810 which became N63810 'Stump Jumper" 44-63810 was a ship of the 167th FS WV ANG where it already had the name "Stump Jumper". Martin / Swiss Mustangs

Martin....You are, of course, right. That's what happens to me when I do things too hurriedly. Looked in my file for 2871D, which crashed while registered to someone in Idaho or Montana (Pac. NW, anyway) and parts used in rebuild of "Stump Jumper". Just jotted down the wrong s/n. Thanks for catching it. Roger

Hi I was raised in Milwaukee Wi, I lived right next to Mitchell Field and would always watch the airplanes. One plane that I really loved was a powder blue P51D that use to shoot touch and go's.This was back when the EAA used a hanger their for the few aplanes that they had, their was no Oskosh fly in. I was only a little tike at the time, my older brother did take me down to see the mustang one day and I got to touch the propeller, this must have been in the late sixties or early seventies.I do remember an artical in the paper about a mustang that was repainted in a camouflage paint scheme and also that it had crashed.I found a name a serial number on this site of someone that owned a mustang from Milwaukee and it had crashed, if anyone can help me find out if this is the same one and maybe provide some pictures I would be greatful. The name found was Tom Kuchinsky, serial 44-63872 N6518D. Thank you very much.

The picture above of the P-51 Mustang case # 271 is a picture of my dad Jim Ventura's plane. He kept his plane at the Santa Barbara airport. I would like to talk with Vern Barker or Roger Baker about this photo of my dads plane. The picture above was taken before he was in the Bendix air race on Sept. 3, 1967 from Palm Springs to Cleveland Ohio. I have pictures of him in his plane before the race with the wing tanks on to carry extra fuel during the race. He got vertigo in bad weather and crashed during the race in Minden Nebraska on Sept. 3, 1967 at about noon. His plane was destroyed and he was killed. Last week my family and I found out about all the stories on the web about my dads plane after we entered his plane numbers N2871D. We had no idea that people were keeping tabs on plane accidents. All I know is that there is no better sound in the world than that of a P-51 Mustang going full throttle. My dad loved flying his plane and died doing what he loved.
