This would be N8673E, 44-74430. Photo taken most likely at Bakersfield, CA. and if date is correct probably owned by Gerald Smith. Aircraft later exported and became YS-149P, TG-REI, N2265P, N52HA. It crashed on a ferry flight from Guatemala on 6-6-78 killing Dr. Burns Bryam.

I believe this is N332,45-11471,probably owned by David Maytag at the time of the photo.

This is 44-74430 N8673E. After going through several owners it was exported to two cousins in Guatemala who operated it for a decade. At a time when their own Air Force used the P-51D as a front line fighter. Later sold back to the US, the 51 crashed on the ferry flight, killing early warbird stalwart Burns Byram.

Dave Maytag's N332 (1964-66 time frame) had a similar paint job but without the pinstripes around the white scallops on the fuselage. The airplane was dark brown and also had a P-51H propeller. N332 went on to Dave Zeuschel and then another owner who crashed the airplane fatally.

Those two buildings in the back ground above the right wing, sure look like the old North American Aviation building, then Westair airlines and now Skywest airlines Hangar, matted up to the CA N.G. 1106th AVCRAD building in Fresno Ca.
I worked in that old N.A. Hangar for about 15 years with the airlines, and my wife (didn't know her at the time worked in the N.G. building until it was torn down.
The pic looks like it would have been taken from some where on what is now the A.N.G ramp facility.
Case Closed!
